Update on Runway Rehab and Extension

From Peter Soderquist, our Airport Manager:

Following is some additional information related to the runway rehab and extension……..

-         Thanks to a suggestion from Robert Gibson, the runway will be closed after the Memorial Day weekend.  The runway is now scheduled for closure on Tuesday, May 31st instead of Saturday, May 28th.  No word on how this will impact the rest of the schedule.  One could assume everything will slip 3 days.  Will keep everyone posted.

-         The PAPI is scheduled for installation sometime during the last week of May, first week of June.  It will be ground-checked by an FAA inspector.  It will not become operational until it is flight-checked.  The flight check date has not been scheduled, but we’re hoping to get it done as soon as possible.

-         The RNAV approach to RWY 27 will be NOTAM’d out of service when the displaced threshold goes in – presently scheduled for April 11.  The 450’ extension requires a new approach be “drawn.”  The FAA is aware that they will be changing this approach.   I am advised that they require the exact coordinates (by survey) of the new runway end and the PAPI before they begin the process.  This information will be provided to them as soon as it is available.  As for when the RNAV will be back on-line, this is unknown at this time.
